About Biomedical Sciences
In this 2 - year programme you are trained in interdiscipl inary approaches to address scientific and societal challenges in the field of (bio)medical sciences. The research in our master programme Biomedical Sciences is related to the maintenance of health and prevention of disease. You will acquire a skill set suitable for a wide range of career opportunities not only in (biomedical) research, but also in industry, policy making and communication/education (*).
The programme is offered by the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), a modern institution which combines research, education and patient care with a strong scientific orientation. Research conducted at the LUMC is ranked among top European and international institutes.
Within the context of the programme, exchange with other European (Eurolife or LERU
) or non
European (Ivy league) universities is
encouraged. Internships can be performed all over the world at high quality research institutes and universities.

available for Dutch students.
Curriculum and Overview
This two - year programme is highly flexible and allows you to follow your personal interests in the order that suits you best. Students can benefit from research expertise at the LUMC in the following profile areas: Vascular and Regenerative Medicine; Immunity, Infection and Tolerance; Translational Neuroscience; Cancer Pathogenesis and Therapy; Ageing; Biomedical Imaging.
The first year consists of a 20 - week research traineeship, compulsory courses and electives.
The second year is dedicated to one of the specialisations: Research, Management, Health, Communication, Education

Job and Career prospects
Our alumni have good career perspectives : over 95% find employment, of which more than 60% within a PhD position (NAE 2017). Though most graduates work in research, alumni can be found in a wide range of jobs.
Graduates often find employment in universities and academic medical centers, commercial companies (e.g. pharmaceutical industry), non - profit organisations, government or policy - making, or education.
