Worum geht's im Studium

Abot Biology

The Biology Institute is part of the Faculty of Science, which offers ample opportunities for crossing borders with other science areas. No less than five biological research institutes collaborate in the MSc programme in Leiden, ensuring abroad and diverse scope.

The Biology Institute at Leiden University has a number of highly recognised research specialisations in evolution and molecular biology. The Institute of Environmental Sciences specialises in research in the area of conservation and sustainability.

The close proximity of the Bio Science Park with its many companies active in the (bio)medical field and the cooperation with the Leiden University Medical Center expand the study options. In addition, the availability of important biodiversity collections at the National Herbarium, the famous Hortus Botanicus, a nd the National Museum of Natural History 'Naturalis' contribu te to an excellent environment for biologists in Leiden.

Students can combine training in biological research with training in communication, education and science - based business

Job and Career Prospects

Approximately half of the graduates choose a career in scientific research, many as PhD students. Universities, research inst itu tes and Medical Centres are the major employers. Others work at consultancies or in the public domain as policy - makers, science communicators or teachers. Graduates also occupy management positions or have project responsibility in a wide variety of (non - ) commercial sectors, from biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies to software development
